Entertaining the Kids in Long Lines

Here are some ideas for entertaining your kids while waiting in long lines:
  • Look for Hidden Mickeys (there is a book all about these as well as some guide books that list them)
  • Read the park map together and talk about your favorite rides and what you want to do next.  Pick up a lot of copies on your way into the park each morning.  You will lose a few and they will get wrinkled and gross.  I also grabbed a couple on my way out to keep as souvenirs.
  • Watch vacation videos saved on your phone.  Be careful with this though as you will be also using your phone a lot to access the My Disney Experience App and your battery will be drained by dinnertime.
  • Stickers!  This is a great way to distract young kids, and they are cheap, light, and take up hardly any space.  Bring some from home to avoid the high costs at the gift shops.
  • Snacks are always a great distraction.  Bring some from home that won’t melt or get smashed.  An added bonus is if they take a long time to eat.  For example, if you have a bag of pretzels, you can hand out one at a time rather than giving them the bag to hold.  Make them answer math or phonics questions to earn a pretzel each time, or answer fun Disney trivia questions.
  • Play games like I Spy and Simon Says.
One reason why Disney World is so great is because they do everything so well.  If you go to a different amusement park like Six Flags, you will be waiting in a boring maze of metal bars.  At Disney World, you will still be in a maze, but often within fun surroundings with a lot to look at around you.
